Trekking in the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park
The Locanda del Cantoniere is a strategic point for visiting the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park.
The surroundings of Cortina are so outstanding an oasis of natural beauty that in 1990 the Ampezzo Dolomites Natural Park was instituted over an area of 11,200 hectares to the north of the town.
Within the park, animal and vegetable species prosper that are typical of these mountains, including deer, roe deer, chamois, birds of prey, marmots and eagles.
The symbol of the park is a small succulent plant with a red star-shaped flower that grows on the Ampezzo plateaus. Its name, “Sempervivum Dolomiticum”, is emblematic: it lives for many years in hostile climatic conditions and is a species exclusive to the Dolomites.
You must not miss the spectacular waterfalls of Fànes, the high altitude mountain lakes and the forests of secular spruce fir and pinus cembra that are veritable monuments to nature.
