The worldly centre of the Queen of the Dolomites
Museums, shops and events throughout the year.
Cortina d’Ampezzo is an all-year-round experience!
Not for nothing dubbed the Queen of the Dolomites, it is the only Italian locality included in the Best of the Alps, the Association that gathers together the 12 most beautiful mountain resorts of the Alps.
Cortina’s beauty is renowned worldwide not only for its natural environment, radiant at every season, and the jagged peaks of the surrounding Dolomites that are unique the world over, but also for its sports facilities including the ski lift system, ski slopes and refuges.
In the famed centre of Cortina, besides the fashion boutiques you will find the Mario Rimoldi Museum of Modern Art, which hosts a valuable collection of artworks by the best known twentieth century Italian artists.
The opportunities for tourists are rounded off by the countless cultural and international sports events at Cortina. To name but a few: the Women’s Skiing World Cup, the Tour De Ski, the international curling tournaments, the The North Face Lavaredo Ultra Trail, the Cortina Dobbiaco Run, the Rally Dolomiti Historic and the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti.
Notwithstanding Cortina’s worldwide renown, its traditions are still deeply rooted and enhance the already rich variety of opportunities for visitors. The first Sunday in July sees the Sagra d’Ampezzo, featuring the Corsa dei Sestieri, at which the contrade, the areas into which Cortina is divided, challenge each other at various sports races.
At the end of August, for an entire week of music, traditional costumes of Ampezzo and folklore, Cortina hosts the Festa delle Bande, during which bands come and play from all over the world.
The Locanda del Cantoniere is the ideal place from which to enjoy all these opportunities.
